The last few days I have been sleeping really well. I don't know what it is about where I am staying but Craig and Mical also sleep for like 10 hrs a night and say they don't wake up at all. It's nice though and it's quiet which is probably the reason why.
The weather here in Aurora has been really warm. plus 30 and sunny and it's quite the opposite of the usual trips out east where back in Victoria or the west it will be sunny and warm and we will be wearing full rain gear and shivering at the start lines. It's a nice change!

Last weekends Canada Cup was a tough battle. I finished 13th and had to fight it out with a bunch of other guys for that position. I was feeling pretty good but not 100% and I guess that is the difference between being top five or on the podium and being 13th (it was like a 2min gap after 1hr 40min of racing for me to be on the podium).

This Sunday I have another race at Hardwood Hills near Barrie Ontario and it should be a hot one that is also really fast! I am looking forward to it!

Canada Cup #1

Today was the Baie St Paul Canada Cup. Leading up to the race I have been feeling good and I am riding well so I was confident I could do well.
Then Friday night I woke up at midnight with my ear super painful and it felt like it was going to explode. I tried popping my ears and it didn't help and after lying in bed for 3 hrs in tons of pain I got up and drove to the hospital to see if they could give me any painkillers since I never packed any ibuprofen on this trip. The nurse was able to help me and also told me to come back in the morning when a doctor would be working to have it checked out.
I went back Saturday saw the doctor and she said my eustachion tubes were plugged most likely from allergies and I had a lot of swelling and pressure build up. She also gave me a prescription for antibiotics since it was infected.
It was my first time ever taking antibiotics but I am sure they are helping.

Today's race I had a call up in the second row which I was fine with and from the gun I rode aggressively and was able to move up and was in the front group for the first couple of laps. I then had a two lap battle with Kris Sneddon for 4th place until I was able to gap him with 2 laps to go and maintain my gap of 6 seconds for the rest of the race. On the final lap Benjamin Sontag caught me about halfway through the climb and I wasn't able to go with him.

I ended up finishing 5th 10 seconds behind Ben and 6 seconds in front of Sneddon. and just under 3min behind Max.

A good start to the bigger races.

Next weekend is Canada Cup Tremblant and the goal is to be top 3

BC Cup #1

Craig and I Waiting for the awards

BC Cup #1 took place yesterday in Gibsons BC. The course was fun to ride and in great shape with a new bridge added over one of the huge mudholes on the descent which made it even more fun to ride!
I had a good race and I am riding well right now. Off the start I lead with Kris Sneddon then taking the lead for the descent and me following him. Unfortunately I had a front flat and I had to stop to fix it and lost a whole bunch of positions. The good thing is that I was able to work my way back up through the field to second place, although I was never able to catch Kris. He is riding really well right now as well!

This Thursday I leave for the first Canada Cup out in Quebec and hopefully the racing goes well there too!

new project

I decided I wanted to have a project for the summer and have always liked the old trucks, so I started to look around and I found a 1972 GMC 2500 that needs work but not so much work that it would feel overwhelming for me.

I bought the truck a couple of days ago and brought it home and now everyday when I arrive home from training I have a little project to slowly restore. I'm really excited for it!
So what does it need? well first of all it is old, it would have been old by the time I was born... but the body is in really good condition and it needs some work around the wheel wells and in the box. There are some rust patches on the body as well but nothing huge and the floor boards on the drivers side are starting to rust out. Mechanically it is pretty good. It needs new steering tie rods and none of the gauges work.. It also needs a bunch of little things but nothing major. It should be fun.

Ok I am off to do my bike training! Oh and I also deleted facebook this morning because I decided I don't need that distraction. We'll see how long it lasts..

Neild Rd

I did the Neild rd hill climb event yesterday. The weather was amazing and it was a fun event to do. I like the hill climb events. At the start it was funny but not surprising to see the majority of everyone there on their full race bikes, trying to set new personal bests. I had a good ride and used my cyclocross bike-which also happens to be my bike for training on the road. After the hill climb I went and rode out to East Sooke and then back via Humback rd to Langford and finished off with prospect lake rd. I think that loop is one of my favourites here in Victoria.
Now I just need to do some studying since I have final exams this week.

Easter Weekend

This weekend has been busy, on Saturday Craig, Tom, and I went to Port Angeles to pick up our new Blue race bikes for the 2010 season! I took the bike out yesterday for a good ride at the Hartland landfill and was super happy with how fast it climbed and how stiff it is. I can't wait to race it.
Yesterday being Easter I also made a huge turkey and had about 10 other people over which was super fun. We now have to eat turkey for a week because I guess 10 people aren't capable of eating 26lbs of turkey....

Today Dustin and I went slack lining in the park for a bit. Dustin is still learning how to be a pro at it and it was my first time but still lots of fun to play around.

Ok well I guess that is not too busy, but I am having a nice long weekend and while I am procrastinating the studying I am finding so many fun things to do!

The school semester is almost over for me, I have one week of classes left and then exams and I am excited for it to be over!
Training has been going really well this year and I am excited to start the season- even if my first big race isn't for another month and a half. Until then I will be focusing on my training and in the next week studying super hard.
